Suspect charged in collision involving AL State Rep. George Bandy

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police have arrested a suspect in a vehicle accident that resulted in the death of an Alabama State Representative.

Michael Brooks was arrested Feb. 7 and charged in the collision involving Representative George Bandy. Bandy was struck by a vehicle driven by Brooks Jan. 5 on Andrews Road in Columbus. Officials say the accident was caused by an improper U-Turn made by Brooks.

Bandy was transported to Midtown Medical Center to be treated for his injuries and was later transferred to the Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon. Georgia where he succumbed to his injuries Jan. 16.

Brooks is charged with the following:

Second-degree homicide by vehicle

Driving while license suspended

Improper U-Turn

False Information

No proof of insurance
