UPDATE: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified the suspect arrested after a short chase Wednesday night as 31-year-old Reginald Henderson.

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office said Henderson had been on the run since September when he escaped from the Mobile Community Corrections Center on Michael Boulevard. That's where investigators said Henderson was checking in with his probation officer when he was arrested on scene for a probation violation.

The director of the corrections center told FOX10 News that Henderson was handcuffed and put in the back of a transport car to be taken to jail. Before the car could leave the parking lot, Henderson broke out and ran across Michael Boulevard into the Crossings at Pinebrook apartment complex, all while his hands were still handcuffed behind his back.

Witnesses in the complex saw Henderson ducking behind cars and hiding in a ditch while officers searched for him. Witnesses then saw a silver car pull up. Someone inside the car opened the door and let Henderson inside before driving off.

Law enforcement officers finally caught up with him Wednesday night on the Bayway. State Troopers were trying to pull him over for a missing headlight when they said Henderson took off. The pursuit ended near the Bankhead Tunnel where troopers arrested Henderson. He was turned over to the sheriff's office and booked into Mobile County Metro Jail.

A short chase involving Alabama State Troopers ended near the Bankhead Tunnel Wednesday night.

A trooper was attempting to stop a car that was driving on the Bayway when the driver took an exit to Battleship Parkway. Troopers said the man stopped his vehicle near the entrance to the Bankhead Tunnel then took off running on foot.

Troopers caught up with him a short time later. The suspect was taken away from the scene in the back of an ambulance.

Troopers have not released his name or condition. We have learned the suspect had active jail warrants.
