Airbus supplier sees big two year growth

An aviation related company based in Ireland that opened a facility at the Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile talked about growth over the past two years.

MAAS Aviation paints aircraft for Airbus and jetliners like Jet Blue.

Thursday, company officials met with the Consul General of Ireland, Shane Stephens, who is in Mobile to check on investments made in this area.

MAAS opened in 2016 and the Consul General said the investment totals more than $35 million dollars.

Stephens said, "It's more than 30 million Euro of investment, 75 jobs, and very significant technology transfer and skill transfer from Ireland."

Tim Macdougald, CEO of MAAS Aviation, said, "This year we're planning on painting up to 80 aircraft and, to put that into perspective, two years ago, we painted 17, so that is quite a significant percentage growth."

The MAAS facility may be getting additional business.

Aviation journals have reported Airbus is expected to build a second Final Assembly Line at Brookley if a deal goes through to build "C Series" aircraft for Bombardier.
