MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

Some frightening moments for a rider in a Mardi Gras parade in Mobile.

A member of the Order of Inca riding on a float Friday was struck by a rock thrown from the ground, suffering a concussion and other medical problems.

The rider asked us not to identify him as he's a member of a Mardi Gras organization.

He said he was riding on a float passing near the 300 block of Government Street, and the parade was close to the end.

The rider said, "I looked out in the audience and saw a guy pick up some kind of, something in his hand.  I thought it may have been some Mardi Gras beads.  I could tell he  clearly was going to throw them back at us on the float.  He was looking at the guy next to me, so I reached around to grab that guy to let him know and got hit in the back of the head. That was it."

And when asked what happened to him after that, he said,  "Not really sure. I mean, I was knocked completely out."

The rider said he came to about 30 seconds later, but falling to the floor of the float aggravated a cervical spinal fusion he had in the past and he's lost use of his right arm and expects to need surgery.

He also has a golf ball sized knot on the back of his head.

The rider did praise first responders who he said were on the scene within two minutes.

The injured rider said he was not able to identify the person who did this because everything happened  quickly.

Even after the incident, the rider said he still went to the ball and wants to keep riding floats.
