FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning held its 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade activation ceremony Thursday.
The ceremony took place on the soldier field at the National Infantry Museum.
The idea for the brigade came from Gen. Mark Milley, chief of staff of the Army. Milley made remarks at the ceremony.
The soldiers will act as a permanent security force in Afghanistan. They are combat advisors who are specially selected and trained. The brigade was formed within nine months and is commanded by Col. Scott Jackson.
The Army plans to establish six Security Force Assistance Brigades with the first being stationed on Kelley Hill at Fort Benning.
