Auburn City Council moves forward with projects planned for the city

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The Auburn City Council moved forward with several programs this week.

  • The Council authorized the Environmental Services Department to apply for a $350,000 grant from the Alabama Recycling Fund Program. Environmental Services hopes to purchase carts for the rest of Auburn’s customers who are interested in single-stream recycling.
  • The Council approved the purchase of 2.2 acres at the corner of Byrd and Tucker with Community Development Block Grant funds to build six to eight affordable homes for low to moderate-income families. A $99,750 contract was also authorized to resurface the Bedell Road Widening Project.
  • The Richland Road Project is set to begin in the next few months. The project was planned to alleviate congestion as a new elementary school is on the way.
  • Auburn’s tree canopy was evaluated to see if any adjustments could improve stormwater drainage and life for people in the city.
