Could robotic flowers help bees make a comeback?

(Right This Minute) – If you've ever felt even the least bit worried about declining bee populations, here's something to pique your interest!

One of the threats bees face is a decline in quality food sources. Artist Michael Candy collaborated with the Resource Ecology Group at Wageningen University in the Netherlands to develop a machine he calls the Synthetic Pollenizer.

Bees can feed on the nectar in the robotic flowers and collect locally-harvested pollen, which they can then distribute to surrounding plants and crops. It's a fascinating example of how technology can support ecological health.
