'Black Panther' contributes $83.9 million to Georgia's economy

(WTVM) – The Marvel movie, "Black Panther," is set to hit theaters in less than a week and the state of Georgia is already feeling the economic impact.

That is because some of the movie was filmed in Atlanta.

Black Panther generated nearly $84 million in economic activity ranging from supply purchases, lodging, transportation, food, and wardrobe for the cast and crew.

Black Panther employed thousands of Georgians, including some people from Columbus, and created opportunities for film tourism.

In terms of ticket pre-sales, Fandango says the Marvel movie is outpacing all other first-quarter ticket sales in the company's 18-year history.
