Contamination issues forces an Opelika recycling center to close

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Contamination issues have forced the Westside Recycling Center in Opelika to close its doors.

The center, located on Grand National Parkway, will close its doors on Apr. 1.

Officials say a buildup of glass is the reason for the contamination issue.

The processing center cannot accept glass and residents have reportedly been contaminating their recycling loads with it, forcing the shutdown.

There are four other recycling centers in the area. The only local center that collects glass is the center on Jeter Ave. in Opelika.
