3 teams advance to Class 7A finals on AHSAA opening day

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Three area teams advanced to the Class 7A finals on the opening day of the AHSAA Central Regional in Montgomery on Wednesday.

The Auburn girls defeated Enterprise 51-37 to earn a spot in Tuesday's regional championship. They'll face R.E. Lee, who defeated Central 59-39 in the other semifinal.

On the boys' side, both local teams advanced to the championship. Auburn rallied from a 16-point deficit to force overtime, then went on to beat R.E. Lee 59-53. Christian Brandt led with 23 points for the Tigers.

Central also won, beating Jeff Davis 46-43 on a Tremaine Porter three-point shot at the buzzer.

The girls' regional championship game is scheduled to tip-off at the Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University at 5 pm ET / 4 pm CT, with the Central-Auburn matchup set to follow. The winners advance to the AHSAA state semifinals in Birmingham.
