Two East Alabama girls basketball teams advance to regional finals

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Two area girls basketball teams advanced to the finals at the AHSAA Central Regional in Montgomery on Thursday.

Anita Payne had five treys and 21 points, while Julia Worth added 17 to lead the Opelika Bulldogs to an 80-25 win over the Paul Bryant Stampede. The Bulldogs will face Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa on Wednesday at 9 am CT for a spot in the Class 6A Final Four in Birmingham.

Kaitlin Hill’s 26 points led the way as the Loachapoka Indians beat Talladega County Central 51-42 in Class 1A action. The Indians face Westminster-Oak Mountain for a Final Four berth Wednesday at 12:30 pm CT.

The area’s lone boys team to play today was eliminated. Opelika fell to Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 53-48.
