UPDATE: Russell Co. Sheriff's Office says there is no threat at Russell Co. High

RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A rumor of a school shooting in East Alabama has been shut down by the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

The Russell County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the student who allegedly made the comments has been temporarily suspended until the investigation is completed.

Various social media posts, including one on Snapchat, describe rumors of a student planning an attack similar to the one in Parkland, FL Wednesday.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor says that his office is aware of the rumor and is investigating any possible threat.

Russell County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Brenda Coley, says she is also aware of the threat.

Dr. Coley said in a Facebook post that all safety procedures are being followed at this time and reminds everyone "if you see something, say something."
