COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The second man charged in a deadly Columbus shooting on Wickham Drive appeared in Recorder's Court.
Dewayne Jones answered to murder charges for the death of 24-year-old Lashay Ford last month.
Jones pleaded not guilty to murder charges in court.
Detective Nichols with Columbus police testified that the 36-year-old suspect was willing to cooperate with police once he was booked into the Muscogee County Jail.
In a recorded interview, Jones apparently tells detectives he did have a firearm with him the night 24-year-old Lashay Ford was shot and killed.
However, Jones also told investigators that another suspect, Carl McClendon, also had his own gun.
Police have recovered shell casings from two different guns at the scene and investigators say a fight broke out inside the home, at which point witnesses say that Jones pulled out his gun.
From that point, witnesses could only hear three gunshots from outside the house.
Jones ran off to Juarez, Mexico before he reached out to law enforcement in the Chattahoochee Valley and turned himself into police in El Paso.
His case is bound over to Superior Court, without bond.
