2 charged with human trafficking in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – Auburn police have made additional arrests in a kidnapping and rape case.

On Monday, Feb. 18, police arrested Laquinta Shamon Tarbert, 35, and Courtney Cortez Morgan,  31, both from Auburn. They have been charged with human trafficking in the first-degree.

The arrests stem from an investigation of a 13-year-old female runaway held against her will at a residence in Auburn and sexually assaulted. The incident was originally reported to police on Oct. 2017. Since that time, Brian D. Askew, 37, and Corey B. Heard, 36, both from Auburn have been charged in connection with the case.

Further investigation by Auburn police resulted in Tarbert and Morgan being developed as accomplices in the case and warrants were obtained for their arrest due to their involvement.

They were both located by police at a residence in Auburn and taken into custody.

Tarbert and Morgan were transported to the Lee County Jail, where they each are being held on a $100,000 bond.
