Central High School hosts Girl Scouts cookie contest

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Culinary students in East Alabama kicked off an annual Girl Scout competition with a dessert cook-off.

Central High School hosted the 'Throw Down' dessert competition to celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend. Two schools joined Central High students Tuesday for the event.

Students were challenged to transform iconic treats into something tastier.

"Eight students who have been part of the culinary arts programs at Russell County High and Opelika High are competing to earn bragging rights and a certificate as part of their culinary arts program," says Girl Scout Leader Debbie Caballbro.

Central's culinary program won last year's National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend Dessert Competition in the Columbus region.

This year's competition will take place Friday through Sunday of this week.
