COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Months continue to pass, but one Columbus mother is not giving up hope that her son’s killer will be brought to justice.

Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Lewis was shot at an apartment building off of Fort Benning Road in October  2017.

According to Columbus police, the case was closed months ago. The alleged triggerman is believed to have shot the fatal bullets in self-defense. He has not faced any charges.

Mother of the victim, Eleanor Lewis, says she will not rest until her son’s killer is off the street.

“I thought it was a dream that night.  I thought I was just dreaming and the phone kept ringing. Robert has been shot,” says the victim’s mother.

Lewis was shot in the early morning hours of October 1, 2017.

Columbus police responded to a call of gunshots at an apartment complex off Fort Benning Road. Authorities found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims would be 29-year old Robert Lewis, who would die from injuries two days later.

Four months later, his family is still dealing with the heartbreak and a back and forth with  Columbus Police Department detectives.

His mother says she will continue to fight for justice. She also hopes people will come forward with any information that would helpful to this case.

“I want justice done. That’s all I want.  I’m not going to stop until I can get justice for my son,” says Eleanor Lewis.

She says she is well-aware of the cycle of silence within in the community and hopes people will come forward with more information.

If you know anything about this case you can call Columbus police at (706) 653-3100. You can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers.
