COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Months continue to pass, but one Columbus mother is not giving up hope that her son's killer will be brought to justice.
Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Lewis was shot at an apartment building off of Fort Benning Road in October 2017.
According to Columbus police, the case was closed months ago. The alleged triggerman is believed to have shot the fatal bullets in self-defense. He has not faced any charges.
Mother of the victim, Eleanor Lewis, says she will not rest until her son's killer is off the street.
"I thought it was a dream that night. I thought I was just dreaming and the phone kept ringing. Robert has been shot," says the victim's mother.
Lewis was shot in the early morning hours of October 1, 2017.
Four months later, his family is still dealing with the heartbreak and a back and forth with Columbus Police Department detectives.
His mother says she will continue to fight for justice. She also hopes people will come forward with any information that would helpful to this case.
"I want justice done. That's all I want. I'm not going to stop until I can get justice for my son," says Eleanor Lewis.
She says she is well-aware of the cycle of silence within in the community and hopes people will come forward with more information.
