COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - People in one Columbus neighborhood are speaking out after an early afternoon incident escalated quickly outside of Lucky Food Mart on Floyd Road.
Police responded to Lucky Food Mart shortly after noon, blocking the convenience store to traffic and marking evidence.
One person was reportedly taken to the hospital.
Neighbors described hearing a number of shots fired.
"It went pow, pow, pow, pow, pow! Got me thinking I'm back in New Orleans," said one Floyd Road resident.
Back to back gunfire is how people along Floyd Road described what happened early Tuesday afternoon.
"We were getting ready for the eulogy for my uncle's service. I stood outside heard about 9 to 10 shots just back to back. I thought it was coming from afar and didn't know it was that close," said Larenza Adams.
The store has since opened back up for business.
The Lucky Food Mart is no stranger to shootings, the store was the site of a deadly shooting two months ago. That shooting left 20-year-old Nicolas Morris dead. Tommy Thomas Jr. was arrested and charged with that murder.
People say incidents at the local food mart are becoming far too common and too close for comfort.
"You know, just like that, you go inside of a store and people are shooting. It could be anybody. It's outrageous, it's outrageous," said Adams.
