COURT: CPD believes Melvin Ave. murder suspect called 911 after the shooting

A Columbus woman went before a judge for the first time Friday in recorders court accused of murder.

Yashicer Pritchett, 43, pleaded not guilty to the shooting death of 51-year-old Tommy Marshall who was found dead inside his home.

Marshall was found in his residence on Melvin Avenue on March 23. Investigators said Marshall's family contacted them for a welfare check after not hearing from him in days.

They found him dead lying in a bedroom with a screwdriver in his hand. Police said Pritchett shot and killed Marshall. They also said Pritchett and Marshall lived together and his body was found in her room.

A bullet casing was found in the same room but no gun. Police say days before finding Marshall, a 911 call came in from an unknown female about someone being shot.

In court, officers said they believe the call came from Pritchett. Pritchett remains in the Muscogee County jail without bond.

We don't know the relationship between the two or the motive behind the killing.
