BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A panel of student leaders from area schools voicing their concerns about gun violence in schools and how to keep schools safe. The town hall took place at the Central Branch of the Birmingham Public Library.

Students say they want to go to school to learn and not have to think about violence. But in today's world, they know violence can happen in an instant.

"Ask me before Stoneman Douglas, yes I felt safe. But now I don't know. There's always a possibility that something could happen especially at my school. 3,000 kids. There's always a chance something bad could happen and it scares me,” said Anjali Thottassery, a Hoover High School student.

We're told there's heightened security measures at area schools right now.

Later this week, Birmingham City Schools will host another student town hall on gun violence. It’s in response to the recent shooting at Huffman High School that took the life of 17-year-old Courtlin Arrington.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 26 in the A.H. Parker High School auditorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
