CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Drug take-back programs are increasing throughout the nation and in East Alabama.

Law enforcement is urging the public to stop by the Chambers County Courthouse in Lafayette from 7 a.m. to noon or CVS Pharmacy on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Lanett from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to turn in unused or expired medication.

Authorities say it’s crucial that unused medicines are handed over to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

"There's always a possibility of someone breaking into your house and stealing medication also the chance of misuse of medication," says Maj. Terry Wood with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
