Opelika Power Services awarded for providing reliable and safe electric service

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Opelika Power Services has been recognized for providing reliable and safe electric service.

The company earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association.  The (RP3) designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement.

Opelika Power Services joins more than 240 of nation’s 2,000 public power utilities nationwide that has been awarded the (RP3) designation.

Neil James, chair of the association’s (RP3) review panel, presented the designation Monday during the annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"This designation is about more than just reliability. It's about operational excellence," said James. "These utilities and their communities should be proud to represent the best of the best in the areas of reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement."

"This is a wonderful honor and our great employees made this happen with their dedication to serving the citizens of Opelika," said Derek Lee, Director of Opelika Power Services. "We take a lot of pride in providing reliable power by doing our work safely and efficiently.  We are very happy to receive this national recognition for our initiative and hard work."

Utility services that are represented are recognized nationally as providers of the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. The (RP3) designation lasts for three years.
