COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The 9th annual National Signing Day for Scholars took place Monday at Columbus State University.
The Columbus National Scholarship Recognition Committee in partnership with Synovus and Piedmont Columbus Regional hosted the event to honor students in Muscogee County who have been awarded post-secondary institution, ROTC, fine arts, and/or servant leadership scholarships.
This year's keynote speaker was Warren Steele.
"It's a pretty big moment to get a chance to be recognized in front of the whole community and just to get to see all of the scholarships that are in the community. To see the large amount of money everyone was able to generate through their scholastic work is just mind-blowing," says Davis Grant, a Brookstone High School senior scholar.
Last year, nearly 159 seniors from public and private school in Columbus were recognized for earning a grand total of $13.86 million in academic scholarships. This year, students received over $15 million.
