CPD searching for vehicle related to Alta Vista Dr. deadly shooting

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus police are investigating a homicide that claimed the life of a 74-year-old man.

On Sunday, April 29, around 10:36 a.m. CPD was called to 1545 Alta Vista Drive in reference to a person being shot.

Police found 74-year-old William Meadows dead from a gunshot wound.

The investigation revealed that on Saturday, April 28 around 4 p.m., Columbus police were called to the same street regarding people reporting several shots being heard on the same street.

Two officers responded to Alta Vista Drive and spoke with some residents.  However, the officers were unable to locate exactly where the shots had been fired or if anything or anyone had been struck.

People in the area of 1545 Alta Vista reported to the officers that they heard shots going through the tree line behind their houses.

The next morning friends of Meadows came by his residence to visit.  It was at this time that Meadows was discovered dead.

At this time, it appears as if an individual or individuals were traveling down Alta Vista Drive repeatedly firing a pistol, and one of those rounds struck Meadows.

The investigation has revealed a possible suspect vehicle.   That vehicle was observed driving down Alta Vista Drive when the shots were fired.

The suspect vehicle was described as a late model Kia Soul that is light in color.
