Calvary Christian School in Columbus hosts annual First Responder Appreciation Day

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A school in Columbus took time out Tuesday to show appreciation to first responders.

Calvary Christian School hosted its fifth annual First Responder Appreciation Day. Students met with first responders to check out their cars, trucks, vans. Students also spent one-on-one time law enforcement agencies to better understand what they do daily.

"We love our first responders. We're really proud of our veterans and the men and women that serve our country. We believe we owe it to them to say, 'thank you.' So this is one of our ways to just personally thank them. We're hoping that this continues to influence students for many years in the future," says Jeff Struecker, lead pastor at Calvary Baptist Church.

Several law enforcement agencies attended the appreciation to include the Columbus Police Department, South Georgia Search Dogs, and the Lee County Sheriff's Department.

Students served breakfast and lunch to those who attended the event.
