COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The grand opening for a new Ronald McDonald Family Room at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital was held Thursday.
The room is located on the fourth floor of Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus and is designed to serve as a breather for parents and family members of inpatient pediatric parents at the hospital.
The family room offers beverages and snacks along with a computer, television, charging stations for cell phones and electronics, books, toys, and games for children.
Tiffany Bamberger, assistant director of the Ronald McDonald House, says the calming atmosphere allows parents and family members to take a break from the stress of being at the bedside of their critically ill or injured child.
"We have had family members that come in here every day to have their lunch. They realize they don't have to leave the fourth floor where most of the babies are in the neonatal intensive care unit," says Bamberger.
The family room officially opened in March.
