RiverFest kicks off in the Chattahoochee Valley, BBQ competition underway

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Pork loin, ribs, and pulled pork. If your mouth is watering, you're not alone. There's a big weekend ahead here in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Thousands will be making their way to Uptown Columbus for RiverFest and if you've already made your way to the area, you might be smelling barbecue in the air.

Twenty-seven teams are competing for the title of 'Best Barbecue' in the Golden's Cast Iron B-B-Q Cook-Off.  These teams will be cooking for 35 judges who will score three rounds. The nine best products move on to finals, and from there, the winner is crowned.

Since its a barbecue competition, you won't be able to taste the team's competing barbeque, however,  there are still plenty of tasty options at Riverfest to fulfill your food cravings.

In the end, who will take home the crown of the best barbecue?

Greg Hoyt from the Georgia Barbecue Association says, "whoever is committed to their craft,  patient, and lets the smoke, meat, and the fire do what it does."

Goldens Foundry employs 325 families in Columbus, bringing a thriving company to the Chattahoochee Valley.
