Mary Tyler Mooer and children from across the country went to Capitol Hill to get more money for juvenile diabetes research. Two-hundred children with diabetes joined the television star in asking congress and the Bush Administration for increased funding. Outside the Capitol they were joined by Washington congressman George Nethercutt, the father of a diabetic child. Nethercutt told reporters, "We;ve worked very hard to add federal tax money to bio-medical research to cure this disease, 16-million who suffer from it in this country, these young people represent their areas, find that cure, we have to keep faith, hope is there, a cure is around the corner." Moore said she was inspired by the talks in Washington, " I look forward to testifying before members of....doubling research money at NIH and in support in particular of stm cell research.
