Girls, Inc. empowers young girls in the Chattahoochee Valley with week-long celebration

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A local group is aiming to empower young girls across the Chattahoochee Valley by showing them it takes more than just a mention to get girls and young women the help they want.

Today, May 7, marks the beginning of Girls, Inc. Week and with it comes empowering events every day through Friday, May 11.

Today was their building block, just calling it Girls, Inc. Day.

The group wants to make sure that every girl in the community knows they have resources available to them.

Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson even officially declared the second week henceforth and forevermore Girls, Inc. Week.

"Girls, Inc. provides girls with a safe girls-only environment, a sisterhood of support, now, therefore, I, Teresa Pike Tomlinson, mayor of Columbus, Ga, do hereby proclaim the second week of May as Girls, Inc. Week," said Mayor Tomlinson during today's kick-off event.

Girls, Inc. of Columbus and Phenix-Russell has two operating centers in Columbus.

The Baker Center serves South Columbus and is located at 3535 Levy Rd. The Dorothy Hyatt Center serves North Columbus and is located at 4637 Kolb Ave.
