COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - May is National Foster Care Awareness Month and a local group needs more foster families for kids in need.
To become a foster parent with Hope Foster Care, you can attend an orientation meeting to find out what the requirements are and find out if you qualify.
Then, Hope Foster Care will help you understand the process, in detail.
There is an Impact training once a week for ten weeks to prepare the foster parent physically, spiritually and mentally for what they should expect.
"May is actually Foster Care Month and it kind of has two really big portions to that," says Alyssa Barrow, Resource Developer for Hope Foster Care. "One is we are trying to create awareness. We actually have over 15,000 kids in foster care in Georgia right now and here in Muscogee County, we have 471 kids in foster care and only 68 homes."
