The Columbus Department of Fire & EMS hosted an awards ceremony and reception to honor its employees Wednesday morning.

The City Services Awards was held at Station 9 on Macon Road. Many awards were given out during the ceremony to deserving employees for their hard work and dedication.

Firefighter and paramedic Josh Adams received two designations for his efforts and commitment as a firefighter. He received the Valor Commendation Award recognizing his hard work and specifically his rescue of a potential drowning victim. Adams also received the Firefighter of the Year Award which is a peer-nominated award.

"It's humbling and it's an award that I'll strive to re-earn every shift that I show up for work. I'm very humbled. I work with a lot of amazing people and any one of them could be standing in my shoes right now," said Adams.

Columbus Fire Marshal Ricky Shores said firefighters are often trained in two different disciplines to be able t respond to all hazards so that whatever the emergency is, firefighters of Columbus are ready to respond.
