COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and this week is Children's Mental Health Awareness Week.
New Horizons held its 2nd annual Children's Mental Health Symposium at the Columbus Public Library today.
The event highlights how parents can help with their children's mental health.
"Parents can start by just talking with their kids. What is going on in their lives? What is causing them stress? What support can parents offer?" said Dimple Desi with the Center of Excellence Children's Behavioral Health.
They also covered heavier topics like child sex trafficking and environmental trauma.
New Horizons worked with parents to give them tools to prevent those issues with their own children.
