COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A lot has gone on in the Chattahoochee Valley and the nation over the last week. Let's take a look back at some of the week's top stories.
In early April, 32-year-old Branden Denson was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Pizza Hut restaurant on Buena Vista Rd. in Columbus.
In early May, 28-year-old Eric Spencer was arrested in connection with the incident. Police also located a bag containing 16 lbs. of marijuana Spencer and two other suspects reportedly stole.
Columbus police are now searching for four more suspects in connection with the incident: Marquis Brooks (aka SOSA), Wesley Flakes (aka Jeezy), Dominique Darnell Johnson (aka Fatt Fool) and Alex Thompson (aka Pistol or Mal).
A married Columbus couple was found dead in the backyard of their home on Lyn Dr. Jeffrey Gilbert, 25, and Lora Gilbert, 26, were both found dead, in what has been ruled a murder-suicide, after not showing up for a hearing in divorce court, which prompted a welfare check.
Police say Jeffrey shot his wife and then shot himself after purchasing a gun the same day.
A Columbus toddler was tragically hit by a car driven by his father and killed while playing in the driveway. 22-month-old Zakai Cook was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he later died.
A boy in Mobile, Alabama was left brain-dead following a dune buggy accident. He died for 15 minutes at one point, but doctors said that if 13-year-old Trenton survived, he would live his life as a vegetable.
"Five kids needed organs that matched him," said his mother, Jennifer Reindl. "It was unfair to keep bringing him back because it was just damaging his organs even more." The day before Trenton was to be taken off of life support, he began showing signs of cognition.
Three brain surgeries later, Trenton still has a long way to go, but he's home and doing well.
A LaGrange woman has been arrested after intentionally striking another person with her vehicle. Brianna Allen has been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
Two Ohio parents were arrested after leaving six children under the age of 10 in their vehicle unattended for around 40 minutes. Jessica Taylor, 26, and Deonte Moses, 31, were arrested and charged after someone saw the kids asleep in the car in the Walmart parking lot.
Five women have been charged after a May 2 fight inside a Flash Foods store in Americus. Video of the incident was posted on Snapchat. A store employee told police it started after someone tried to buy some beer and the cashier asked for an ID. All five women were charged with disorderly conduct.
Police in Virginia Beach, Virginia ticketed a driver $100 for smoking while driving with a child in the car with him. It has been illegal since 2016 to smoke in the car with a child under the age of eight present in Virginia.
An Arizona woman is accused of stalking a man that she met online. The man said the pair went on one date more than a year ago, but she has since sent him more than 65,000 text messages.
