AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Residents in an Auburn neighborhood are keeping an extra eye out after an alligator was discovered overnight.
Animal control says they responded to a call from police about an alligator on the loose in a subdivision off North College Street.
Wildlife officials believe the alligator is wild and not someone's pet.
Officers say this isn't what they typically deal with, but alligators are in the area and are urging locals to be cautious.
"The biggest thing is don't mess with them. They won't mess with you as long as you don't bother them. Don't attempt to feed them or catch them. If you see them, reach out to us or call us at our office," said Auburn Animal Control Officer Chelsea Warner.
This alligator is being sent to the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve at Auburn University where it will be cared for and studied for educational purposes.
