Columbus school teacher honored for making impact on students

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A Muscogee County school teacher is being applauded for the work she's done in her first year on the job.

Brittany James, a second-grade teacher at Key Elementary found out that she was the winner of the "Be the One Project."

The project recognizes first-year teachers who have overcome some sort of obstacle and made an impact on their students.

James was recognized for her hard work at a ceremony.

She says she didn't know anyone was paying attention to her work, especially in her first year.

"I do it to make them better and I didn't know people paid attention to me and knew of me, and I made a difference in the school system," James said. "I am still learning how to be a teacher and being better. I didn't know anybody was going to do this, I just thought I was in the back like a little shadow. nobody was paying attention."

As part of her achievement, James was presented with new school supplies, "STEM" kits, and snacks for her class.
