COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Piedmont Columbus Regional's Kangaroo-a-thon is underway.
The Kangaroo-a-thon kicked off Monday and highlights the importance of skin-to-skin contact between a mother and baby. The contact mimics the way a kangaroo holds her baby in her pouch.
This year marks the third year the initiative has taken place to promote infant health in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Health officials say the skin-to-skin method is proven to be beneficial to the health of infants in the NICU.
The event lasts for two weeks.
