COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A large crowd showed up at the new fine arts school in Columbus Friday night for what some described as a variety show.
The first community concert at Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts ended in a unique way with Muscogee County Superintendent Dr. Davis Lewis conducting the final piece performed by the orchestra.
The concert was standing room only and featured dance, theater, and chorus performances from students and the community.
"We wanted to bring the community into this fine facility and let them see what the ESPLOST dollars have helped to purchase. We also wanted to let people know the talent that we have in this community and from this point forward can only get bigger and better," said Lewis.
Freshman oboist Stephen Slater mentioned that being able to play with all the others who participated was a great outlet.
