House of Heroes marks Armed Forces Day with community project

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Today is Armed Forces Day and the House of Heroes of the Chattahoochee Valley is marking the day with another charitable project.

Volunteers cleaned up veteran Boysie Shaw, Jr.'s yard.

They put on a fresh coat of paint, ripped up old carpet, and fixed his air conditioner.

Private First Class Shaw entered the U.S. Army in 1983. His main job was as a lightweight vehicle mechanic during his Army career.

"It made me feel real good," says PFC Shaw. "It made me feel appreciative for what I did for the country. I really appreciate them coming out here for me and all the other veterans."

Shaw was also presented an American flag for his service to our country.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May.

A big thank you from News Leader 9 to all those who serve in Armed Forces, today and every day.
