SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

One community in East Alabama came together to help raise money to benefit one of their own firefighters.

Captain David Davis was severely burned during a training exercise in Opelika in March.

The fundraising event featured two motorcycle rides, a concert and a barbecue.

Participants say this is the least they can do to help a firefighter who has given so much to the community.

“The whole community should be out here supporting this. The firefighters are out there to protect you every day and now it’s time for us to give back a little bit,” said Bill Czukor, one of the event’s attendees.

The fundraiser will end at 10:00 p.m. at the Buck Wild Saloon in Smiths Station, Al.
