Honoring Memorial Day with a weekend full of events

(WTVM) - Memorial Day is a time to remember and celebrate the lives of those who passed away while serving in the armed forces. 

The holiday is celebrated on the last Monday in May but many will commemorate the holiday through the weekend. There will be many local events over the weekend to help remember those who served. 

Below is a list of events that will be happening around the Chattahoochee Valley for Memorial Day: 

  • Fort Benning honors Memorial Day 
    • Monday, May 28 at 9 a.m. 
    • Main Post Cemetery located at 64-66 Custer Road Columbus, GA 31905 ??
  • Auburn's 20th Annual Mayor's Memorial Day Breakfast 
    • Monday, May 28 at 9am/8am CST
    • Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center ??
  • Auburn and Opelika honors veterans
    • Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. 
    • Veterans Memorial Monument in front of Opelika's City Hall
  • Memorial Day Weekend at the National Infantry Museum
