Final 'Run Across Georgia' race begins in Savannah

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The tenth and final 'Run Across Georgia' race has officially kicked off.

The run began in Savannah just hours ago and will finish up 260 miles later in Columbus.

Though Team News Flash, featuring News Leader 9's own Jason Dennis, made their journey across the state via a vehicle yesterday, they will not be returning by one as they will take turns runnings legs of the race stretching the width of the entire state.

For the race's final year, a record number of participants have come out to race. Around 350 runners and some bicyclists will complete this adventure.

The run supports local causes. All the money for the race raised through Team News Flash goes to the military non-profit House of Heroes and Mercy Med's health clinic at Fox Elementary School in Columbus.
