PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A late rally by Chattahoochee Valley Community College was not enough to overcome a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, and the Pirates fell 7-6 to Iowa Western.

CVCC came into the inning down 7-4, but plated a pair of runs and got the tying run to third base with two outs. Kale Ledford struck out swinging to end the rally and the game.

CVCC scored first on a Rankin Woley single in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Iowa Western got the run back and more in the third inning thanks to a pair of two-run homers to give the Reivers a 4-1 lead.

Woley came through again in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Woley got a two-run single to cut the lead to 4-3. Jason Rooks got an RBI single of his own two innings later to tie the game back up at four.

That tie was short-lived, as Iowa Western plated two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, one on a single, and another on a sacrifice fly. They added one more run of insurance in the top of the ninth.

CVCC outhit the Reivers 14 to 8, but the home runs in the early innings made the difference for Iowa Western.
