AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Many people gathered in East Alabama to honor Memorial Day.
The Auburn Veterans Committee along with city leaders held a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial.
During the ceremony, Amazing Grace was played from bagpipes along with the presentation of a wreath. One of the many veterans in the crowd said he is thankful for the day and the continued service of those in the military.
"When I was in Vietnam, I lost several young people who I loved dearly, just brilliant young Americans. They were willing to serve and give their lives to our country. I appreciate their service," said Ret. Lt. Col. James Lacy.
While the flowers on the wreath will dwindle away, city leaders said the monument stands tall year-round to remember those who lost their lives in service of our country.
