Georgia run-ruled by Florida in WCWS

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (WTVM) - Seventh-seeded Georgia had no answer for the Florida Gators offense in the opening round of the Women's College World Series. A five-run first inning and three home runs helped the number two seed run-rule the Dawgs, 11-3.

Five runs in the first inning came thanks in part to a two-run double by Jordan Matthews. One batter later, Aleshia Ocasio hit a three-run homer to put a five spot on the board.

After plating another run in the 2nd, Florida put up two more on the board when Jordan Roberts hit a home run to center. One more homer from Hannah Adams in the 5th put Florida up 9-3.

Florida ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded knocked in the winning run for the Gators. It was part of a three-run inning.

Georgia hit well, but got out-slugged by the defending National Champions. UGA jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run from Justice Milz in the top of the first, but Florida's response with five in the bottom of the inning appeared to sink the Dawgs. Alyssa DiCarlo added a homer in the 3rd inning, but that only cut the lead to 6-3.

UGA moves to the loser's bracket of the Women's College World Series. They face the loser of UCLA and Florida State this Saturday, June 2nd. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. eastern time.
