Organization in Columbus hosts first ever pride pageant

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - June 1 marked the first day of Pride Month and celebrations in Columbus marked the occasion.

Colgay Pride hosted the first ever Mr. and Miss Columbus Georgia Pride Pageant. Contestants came from as far as Macon to showcase their talents wearing their best outfits.

"Our theme this year is 'hate will not win.' Love is love and that's all we want to talk about. We want to love each other, we want people to love us, and love one another as you'll have them love you. That's the message tonight," said Jeremy Hobbs, director of Colgay Pride.

Friday's event marked the fifth year for the Columbus Pride event.
