COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- June is pride month and many people took it to downtown to celebrate this year with the 5th annual Columbus, Georgia LGBT Pride Festival two day event.
This year's LGBT Pride Month Proclamation took place toady, June 2, at Broadway Columbus between 11th and 12th Block of Broad. There was a presentation of the Columbus Georgia LGBT Pride Month Proclamation and feature speakers this year included Mayor Elect Skip Henderson, City Councilor Mimi Woodson, and Sheriff Donna Tompkins.
People were honored for their hard work for equality and their lifetime works as an LGBT advocate and mentor. Rev. Emily Bell from Forgiving Heart Church says, "these kind of celebrations help us have a self-evaluation and self- esteem to know that we are just as good as everybody else."
There was also entertainment and music along with a march for equality for all with the LGBT Pride Parade. The event will wrap up tonight at 11 p.m.
