Tyrone Smith wins against 3-time Barbour County Sheriff in primary election

BARBOUR COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - The numbers are finalized in the Barbour County Democratic race for Sheriff.

Tyrone Smith beat three-time Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw by 63 percent.

"The support that I have had has been overwhelming. All throughout the county, I thank the people who have supported me. Regardless of how this turns out, I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart," says Smith.

Smith says he's worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. He's worked with the Eufaula Police Department as a patrolman and investigator.

Smith will run against Republican candidate Ronnie's Benefield in the general election in November.
