COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Covenant Woods retirement community in Columbus celebrated and recognized their veteran residents in honor of D-Day on Wednesday.
Over 40 veterans of Covenant Woods enjoyed lunch together, provided by Blackwater Barbecue, and shared memories of World War II. They remembered the sacrifices made in wartime in that day.
Resident Charles Maupin, the one resident of Covenant Woods who was at the Battle of Normand on D-Day, shared his thoughts.
"Let people know and never forget the sacrifices those guys made. We should n't be remised in our responsibility as a great nation as a Christian nation, and as a nation of generosity and goodwill," said Maupin.
June 6, 1944, was the day of the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II.
