PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A random selection of teachers in Phenix City got to enjoy some fun at the river during Thursday morning.
The teachers were selected from different schools in Phenix City and enjoyed rafting and zip lining over the river. Afterward, they had a mini celebration at the pedestrian bridge where there was food and a chance for them to celebrate each other. The activities were part of Educator Day at the River.
"This is an end of the year reward system, if you will, for faculty and staff members. It's great to have staff development and in Phenix City, we are all about hands-on and minds-on learning opportunities. Being outside in this environment, there is not a better way to convey that to our teachers," said Randy Wilkes, the superintendent of Phenix City Schools.
This year's Educator Day at the River marks the fifth year the day on the river has been going on. The event is designed to build awareness and to focus entirely on school teachers.
The theme for this year's day on the river was "History on the River."
