COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The man charged with vehicular homicide after striking and killing a pedestrian near Buena Vista Road appeared in Recorder's Court Friday morning.
Cobb's charges include failure to report an accident with death, hit-and-run, felony homicide by vehicle, and improper tires.
He is currently being held at the Muscogee County Jail until his more than $25,000 bond is met by his family.
According to the court hearing, Cobb did not call the police until about an hour-and-a-half after the accident happened.
He reported the crime and called the police after he returned to the scene along with his father, Henry Cobbs, Sr., a 30-year employee of the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office.
"He was a young man that did what a lot of young men would do and he went and told his daddy, Cobb's attorney, Mark Shelnutt said. "Dad this is what happened- and they go back to the scene and unfortunately a young man's dead... and I'm very sorry - I hate it... tragedies happen but they are not always crimes."
Shelnutt, argues that the circumstances of the occurrence were that of a very dark area of roadway in the middle of the night and the victim wearing dark clothing as tragic as it is proved that his client was not aware of the victim walking in the road because he could see him.
